Hotel Review: Bich Duyen Hotel

Despite the lack of a website, Bich Duyen Hotel ranks in the top 10 of the top hotels in HCMC in Tripadvisor. It is also highly recommended in forums and blogs. The price: $17 a night for a double bed with a private bathroom, seems reasonable. Wifi, hot water, breakfast, accessible, within the budget – meets all my criteria. The TV is a bonus.

I made my reservation by emailing Bich Duyen. I just got the email address from a forum. The reply was prompt, cordial and complete. They offer a pick-up service from the airport for $14, and they also arrange the tours and tickets.

All the hotels in the same alley

On the night of our arrival, our driver stopped in front of a narrow street lit up by several neon signs of some shops. In the morning, we realized the hotel's location is ideal. It is surrounded with lots of convenience stores, souvenir shops and cheap food options.

The room's space is just average. Not too big, but not too small either.
Basic stuff

During our first two nights in our first room, the water was just warm. On the next two nights when we transferred rooms after arriving from Mui Ne, the water got hot.

Clean towels too

The hotel has no elevator so be prepared to do some exercise if your room is in the higher floors. Our first room was on the 4th floor. Can’t forget anything upstairs or we will have to do some impromptu exercise.

Breakfast was just okay. Not a lot, but enough to keep you full. Coffee or tea + omelet or sunny side up eggs + juice + banana. I like the omelet version better.

The baguette is a standard bread in Vietnam

Watching Apollo 13 while having breakfast. A very high-tech movie back in the 90's.

Although the hotel is just so-so, the service was really great! It was good to be greeted by such happy nice staff. No worries! They happily answered all our questions. They constantly warned us to watch our bags and stuff because the pickpockets ride the motorcycles. The area is surrounded by other budget hotels that may offer the same price, but this place will make you smile!

In a nutshell: Just Okay Place, Great Service

  2. Hey Chriscie! I think there are night buses in Mui Ne. Our place in Mui Ne arranges night buses from Mui Ne to HCMC so I would assume that there is also a HCMC-Mui Ne night trip. If those are full days of your trip and you are willing to travel, I guess okay naman.

The group sand dune tour starts at 2pm - that's the one offered by our hostel. No need for reservations. You can read more about it in my Mui Ne Entry here:
