It is 2015, and my birthday. This “About Me” page could use some updating.

Hello! My name is Loraine. Born and raised in Quezon City, Philippines. Nice of you to wander here.

I love learning. I travel to learn. 
Learning is the destination and travel is the mode of transportation.
I am an accountant by degree and by profession. Also a grad student at the moment.
I like to plan the numbers. Then I observe them if they turn out as planned. If they don’t, I like finding out why.

All my adventures are self-funded, unless otherwise stated (which is just an occasional free lunch or dinner from good old friends or fresh friends).  I budget and plan my trips. Budget is the tool that allows me to do whatever I want and be wherever I want. (If you don’t budget, I urge you to learn it and make it your friend).  

This blog my attempt to immortalize myadventures. It turns out that I have a lot of adventures, I can’t keep up blogging about them (I can’t keep up with myself! LOL). Still, I try.

The travel bug bit me in 2008.
In 2009, I created a list of my dream destinations.
In 2013, I created a continuation of that list. I do not believe in the “100 places to visit before you die” list. I create my own. There may be seat sales here and there but if that destination is not in my immediate bucket list, I don’t buy it. I wander with a destination in mind.

I love reading about personal finance. Yes! Love! I like managing my money so I won’t have to sell my time for more money. I am learning what “enough” is.

I am trying to live healthy. Healthy = clean eating and exercise.

I also love music. I used to be awesome in playing a bunch of music instruments. My dream retirement gig is to be choir teacher. I’d like to teach and sing music from any place in the world with people who love music as well.

My main objective in this blog is to share my adventures, particularly the budget, itinerary and some planning tips. If I made you laugh, inspire you or entertain you, that’s a bonus.





I do read emails. If I don’t reply on a timely manner, I am enjoying my adventure. I apologize.

    Wow... really really cool Blog!
    Especially your Tablas trip, explainations and pics were very useful for me.
    And you are a good photographer ;)
    I wonder why u left out my City (vienna) within your extensive Europe trips, heheh :)

    Hi! I am also an accountant. And travel bug just hit me this year. My first travel abroad was just last week. I went to Siem Reap, Cambodia and Bangkok, Thailand. When I returned to Davao City (where I am working), I can't help to keep thinking where and how to travel to my next destinations.

    I am happy that someone of the same profession has a travel blog. I can relate to your blog. Thank you so much. I hope I could inquire you if I have some queries.

The United Kingdom (UK) may be in Europe but it is not included in the Schengen zone. You need to apply for a separate visa in the UK. I’ve always wanted to see London (because of Mary Poppins) but I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of applying and paying for another visa aside from Schengen. Since this was a family trip, I finally had the opportunity of visiting London. We had to apply for a UK visa first before applying for a Schengen visa in the French Embassy. The process is a bit similar to the US Visa application wherein you fill-out a long form, pay the visa fee, then schedule your application to submit your documents. Blaaaaah-ging

I established this blog as a "shrine" for my adventures.  I've have travelled, since my last update - I took time to at least update my Adventure Accounts page. It's just...more difficult to really give trip details. Each blog post takes me approximately 4 hours to write, select and watermark photos, and recheck my excel file & trip notes. So two long and detailed blog posts equal to one working day. In the last couple of years, the rise of microblogging just made it easier to just skip a blogpost; because hey, there's your audience in FB or IG. I don't like to admit this, but there's a sense of "instant validation" when others do like your travel update post vs. waiting for someone to give a nice comment in your blog post (that took hours to write).  In between my March 2017 post and today, I've been busy being a postgraduate student in the UK (thru the Chevening scholarship), then I've travelled for 90 days to cover 11 count...

The Road Less Travelled: Malang-Ngadas-Cemoro Lawang. My Epic Adventure.

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled, and that has made all the difference. - Robert Frost” The usual route from Yogyakarta to Mount Bromo is via Probolinggo, a bus terminal filled with touts. I read lots of horror stories about the drama in Probolinggo (I have one as well but that’s for a separate blog post). The other option is to get a package tour from your hostel or any travel agency and then endure a 15-16 hour minivan ride with other tourists. Two lousy options. Both not fun. After some careful research, I stumbled across the Bromo backdoor route via the town of Ngadas. I read about the Malang-Ngadas-Cemoro Lawang route from these amazing bloggers. A good acquaintance, who also did this route, helped me out with the details. Kurtzy WalkFlyPinoy Ambot Ah So there are some adventurers who did this route. The thing is, they are all male.
